Vipers SC edged Bright Stars in a 1-0 victory in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreation Centre, Wakiso on Tuesday evening.
Bright Stars played the whole second half with a man less but still looked a better side than Vipers SC who struggled to command possession.
The hosts’ custodian Simon Tamale was the man of the match after saving ten shots from the eleven that went on target.
Yunus Sentamu placed the Venoms in the leadoff Bobosi Byaruhaga’s miss-cued shot with only six minutes in the game.
Four minutes later, Sentamu had a chance to extend the lead but his header off Halid Lwaliwa missed the target by inches.
In the 20th minute, Bright Stars almost leveled matters through forward Janjali his resultant effort after beating his opponent went wide.
At half an hour mark, Milton Karisa’s freekick kissed the crossbar after the knuckleball technique.
With two minutes to end the first half, Anukani cited Sentamu through a dropping ball but the forward failed to convert with a keeper to beat.
Youngster Irinimbabazi was sent off for a second yellow card following a high tackle he made to Vipers defender Paul Willa.
On the return of the second half, Vipers’ chance came through Manzoki whose header went wide off Anukani’s good corner kick.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, Sentamu was fouled by defender Katwe to award Vipers a penalty, Manzoki stepped up to take the effort from 12 yards but the custodian Tamale parried it away.
In the 70th minute, defender Marvin nearly brought back Bright Stars in the game but Fabien Mutombora stretched to fingertip it away.
With ten minutes to end, Manzoki laid a calm pass with the head to locate Karisa whose effort from close range was jabbed away for a corner.
The result reduced the game between Vipers SC and KCCA FC from four points to one after eleven games played sitting second with 26 points.
Bright Stars suffered their sixth loss and lie 14th on a 16-team log with only seven points from eleven games.
In their next fixtures, Vipers SC will host UPDF at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on 29 December while Bright Stars will travel to Mtn Omondi Stadium to play against on-form Police FC.
