Express FC will complete the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League by hosting a rejuvenated side in Soltilo Bright Stars today Friday January 7, at Betway Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.
The Red Eagles target a third straight victory having managed back to back wins for the first time since last season after a 4-0 win against Busoga United and a 2-0 victory against Tooro United.
Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa’s charges have been preparing, since their previous game against Tooro United.
“Since we returned from Fort Portal, we’ve tried to correct a few mistakes ahead of the game against Soltilo Bright Stars on Friday,” Bbosa said.
“They could be struggling but I believe they’re a decent side and we want to win the game. We want to reduce the gap between us and the table leaders. I’d generally say we had a slow start in the beginning but that was because the players were fatigued,” intimated Bbosa adding that players have managed to pick themselves up.
Meanwhile, Soltilo Bright Stars targets a second consecutive victory on Friday after winning 1-0 against SC Villa last time out.
This will be the 16th meeting between both sides with the Red Eagles managing five wins while Soltilo Bright Stars have picked up three wins with seven draws between both sides.
Express FC are on the verge of breaking their own record of going 13 games unbeaten. Yaya Mahad and Nicholas Kasozi both return after suspension and illness respectively while Abel Etrude and Arthur Kiggundu remain sidelined.
Murushid Juuko who was replaced at the last minute before the 2-0 away win against Tooro United due to illness will have to pass a late fitness test.
A win for the defending champions will see them move to 29 points while Bright Stars will move to 13 points if they register maximum points on Friday.
