Police Officer detained for burning Mother to death

The Police in Entebbe have apprehended one of their own, ASP Edward Bua on charges of arson and murder after he was suspected to have burnt a house, killing his mother Margaret Nyakuni Onzia, 66years. The deceased, a resident of Bugonga in Entebbe municipality, was until her death, the deputy director Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.

The incident which happened on Saturday morning, left many residents shocked on the gruesome act. “It was reported to police and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene in attempt to extinguish the fire,” stated Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesperson.

ASP Bua, 38years, is a lawyer and police officer. It is alleged that he locked his mother inside the bedroom before locking the main house and later setting it ablaze at around 3am in the morning. Upon his arrest, a match box was allegedly recovered from Bua.

As Nyakuni’s body was taken for postmortem, Bua remains detained at Entebbe Police station as investigations ensue to ascertain his motive. Scolastica Najjemba, the chairperson for Division A in Entebbe municipality said, Bua has for long, been intimidating his mother.
