The president of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Museveni Kaguta this morning conveyed his congratulatory message to Kenya’s President elect, William Samoei arap Ruto following his victory in Kenya’s highly contested presidential election.
President Museveni took it to his Twitter account to show solidarity to the people of Kenya for their choice. “On behalf of all Ugandans, I congratulate Your Excellency William Samoei Ruto upon your election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya,” He Twitted
“Further to my telephone call last night upon your victory, I wish to reassure you of Uganda’s commitment to continue partnering with Kenya in advancing regional and continental agenda through the East African Community, African Union and other multilateral platforms,” He revealed.
“Our bilateral cooperation will score tremendous achievements and I look forward to working more closely with you. God bless Kenya. God bless East Africa,” he added.
Other leaders who have come out to congratulate Kenya’s President elect include; Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Zimbabwe President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Somalia’s presidency also shared a message from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, saying he “warmly congratulates President-Elect William Samoei Ruto of the Republic of Kenya, following his election victory,”.
Chairman of the Independent Electral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya,Wafula Chebukati announced on Monday evening that Ruto had won the presidential race garnering 50.49% which represent 7.18 million of at least 14 million Kenyans who voted.
The most decisively tight poll now halts the ascendency of the Kenyatta-Odinga dynasties since 1964 in the East Africa’s biggest economy. Ruto’s Nemesis, Raila Odinga strolled in closely polling 48.98% an equivalent of 6.94 million.
The Kenyan law requires a presidential candidate to gain at least 50% of the votes as well as at least 25% of the votes in half of the 47 counties.
