The 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season kicked off on Friday, October 15, 2021. However, league record holders SC Villa are still missing in the season long fixtures. The Jogoo will have to wait until Tuesday, October 19 to get a decision on the team’s future as regards taking part in the current campaign.
The StarTimes secretariat scraped off Villa from the fixture because they lacked a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after FUFA banned newly appointed Brenda Nambalirwa Kawuma who had replaced sacked Shawn Mubiru.
The ban was due because Nambalirwa took football matters into court. Reports indicate Villa, last week appointed Muhammad Bazirengedde as new Club CEO pending approval.
SC Villa was slated to play BUL FC in their league opener at FUFA Technical Centre-Njeru, but have since relocated to Kavumba Recreation Centre which is also home to Bright Stars FC.
Elsewhere, Match-day one action is underway with five games already played and two await to be completed by Tuesday.
On Friday, Champions Express FC suffered a shocking 2-0 loss to league debutants Arua Hill SC in an encounter that was marred by ugly scenes of tactician Wasswa Bbosa verbally attacking the team’s CEO Isaac Mwesigwa.
Alfred Leku had a buzzing evening and assisted Robert Eseru for the opener before engineering Rashid Kawawa’s effort to double the lead.
Mbarara City FC registered an emphatic 3-1 win against stubborn Soltilo Bright Stars at Kakyeka Stadium in an end to end encounter.Henry Kitegenyi, Karim Ramathan and Solomon Okwalinga were on target for the hosts before Nelson Senkatuka found one for the visitors.
In Arua, Onduparaka FC was held at the Ababet Greenlight Stadium to a one-all stalemate by UPDF FC in an energy-sapping encounter.Ivan Ahimbisibwe placed UPDF in the lead before Rashid Agau levelled matters in the early minutes of the second half.
The league took a break on Saturday as URA FC held Egyptian Al Masry SC in a goalless draw in the CAF Confederation qualifiers.
On Sunday, KCCA FC earned a 3-0 win against hosts Wakiso Giants that kicked off a new era with Morley Byekwaso as full head coach at Lugogo.Sadat Anaku, Davis Kasirye and Ashraf Mugume were on the scoresheet to ensure the Kasasiro boys claim all points at Kabaka Kyabbagu Stadium.
In the second game of the day, Vipers SC continued to cruise under Brazilian gaffer Robertinho Oliviera with a 2-0 win against Police at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
