A section of leaders and women residents in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District have expressed concerns over voter registration anomalies ahead of the Women Executive Committee Elections.
Kawafu Cell Local Council 1 chairperson, Daniel Makooba said endeavors to register women voters in the area have been frustrated by the absence of Electoral Commission (EC) workers in the area.
Acording to Makooba, the designated person meant to carry out the registration exercise in the area had gone AWOL before the end of working hours.
Robert Mukasa who is a senior resident of the area said they are worried none residents might be added into the register.
“The time given to us to have registration done is very limited, we are afraid non-residents might be entered into the register at the expense of the others, the person meant to carry out the exercise in this cell has been disappearing at awkward hours since Friday.” Mukasa stated
However, Katabi Town Council EC supervisor, Sulaiman Muwonge said they are currently handling all grievances expeditiously.
Muwonge said further that there is no cause for alarm assuring locals that everyone is to be registered.
The EC has extended the deadline day for the registration of voters for four extra days until Friday 17th, 2022
