Fire Burns at least 5 business Kiosks in Entebbe

Fire has burnt down at least five business kiosks on Saturday in the Katabi trading Centre in Entebbe Municipality.

Merchandise including textiles, mattresses, homeware and electronics worth millions of shillings was lost in the fire that started at around 4pm.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire might have been caused by sparks from welding torch flames from one of the the kiosks.

Rachel Mirembe, one of the locals told Gateway News that a welder was making repairs on a Kiosk that had been broken into by thieves a few days ago.

The Fire Department responded to the incident, but no items were saved from the fires.

Glaring with disappointment and confusion, Sarah Nakayi said the fire was raging and exploding too fast to be contained.

“Response from the Police was very slow, if they got here earlier maybe we would salvage something.” Nakayi said

Police said an investigation to establish the cause of the fire is ongoing and a full report would follow.
