SUPL: Wasteful Vipers Edge Soltilo Bright Stars To Extend Supremacy

Vipers SC registered a 2-1 narrow win against Soltilo Bright Stars in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

Halid Lwaliwa gave Vipers an early lead before Ibrahim Kasinde levelled matters however, Cesar Manzoki regained the lead for the hosts.

The Venoms created numerous chances on the day but were unlucky to utilise most of those.

In the sixth minute, Milton Karisa beat Bright Stars defenders and goalkeeper but his resultant effort was poor.

Four minutes later, Vipers’ defender and captain Halid Lwaliwa climbed to head home Bobosi Byaruhanga’s freekick from the right flank.

Moments later, Paul Willa laid across in the area to meat Yunus Sentamu but it was blocked for a corner kick.

With ten minutes to play in the first stanza, Dissan Galiwango delivered a sweet ball in the area but Sentamu’s header went wide by inches.

Five minutes after recess, Bobosi fouled Yasin Mugume in the area and Bright Stars were awarded a penalty.

Ibrahim Kasinde stood up and converted from the spot sending Fabien Mutombora to the wrong side.

After seven minutes, Vipers responded swiftly through Ceasar Mazonki whose hard strike from close range beat Bright Star’s custodian Tamale.

Vipers had a chance to extend the lead after Sentamu was fouled in the area but Bobosi’s chilly effort was saved by Tamale.

In the 86th minute, Bright Stars nearly levelled but Youngman’s header was cleared off the line by Paul Willa.

After full-time, Vipers extended the log lead at 43 points while Bright Stars sith 15th with 16 points after 19 games.

In the next fixtures, Vipers will travel to Fort Portal to play against Tooro United on Friday March 11 while Bright Stars will host BUL on the same day.
