The government of Somalia has expelled Ugandan national and head of African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Simon Mulongo for reportedly engaging is activities subversive to his mandate.
In a letter copied to the African Union (AU) and Amisom by Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said the expellee had to leave the country in a week’s time.
“(He is) ordered to leave the country within seven days for engaging in activities incompatible with Amisom’s mandate and Somalia’s security strategy,” the letter says.
However, the letter doesn’t cite clear reasons for Mulongo’s expulsion, but Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Mohamed Abdirizak, on Twitter said the country will hold Amisom staff to account, saying they are expected to be beyond reproach.
In recent days tensions have been boiling between Somalia and neighbours Kenya, resulting into cutting diplomatic ties.
