SC Villa head coach Petros Koukouras has called upon everyone that wants to see the team succeed to keep patient because it will take time for them to take the required shape.
This came after the side suffered a 0-1 loss to Soltilo Bright Stars in the Star Times Uganda Premier Lague at Kavumba Recreation Ground, Wakiso on Tuesday afternoon.
“We know that the result was poor but since we are working with young boys then we need to be patient because there is no short cut to the top,” Koukouras revealed in the post match press conference.
“We had a very poor game. We are planning to go back think and find out what really happened. It is clear that something very wrong happened today and we can’t allow such performances,” he added.
A second-half Marvin Youngman strike was enough to seal a golden Bright Stars’ victory at home which inflicted Villa’s first defeat in the previous three games.
Bright Stars had gone six games without a win. They dominated the opening stages and right from the start any one would tell they were very hungry to pick all the points.
Four minutes into the game, Nelson Senkatuka beat Gavin Kizito before he pulled off a shot but his effort went above the framework.
Moments later, SC Villa grew in spirit in that they nearly took the lead through Gavin before his header kissed the right post. But later, the visitors were flat and arguably mesmerised by the intensity and guile of the hosts.
“It’s very hard to explain how the team played today because those are not the instructions that we gave to the boys. It is very disappointing to see the team I train play this poor.”
“I have seen many teams in the league prefer to play long balls but it is not us, we have not been training like this and we can not allow to play like this.”
“But everyone should know that when you deal with a young side like this one, you normally need to support them through their difficult days to see that something like this never happens again,” he concluded.
SC Villa lies in the 10th position with 15 points levelled with Police FC. They will be hosting UPDF at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday January 8 before they conclude the first round with Vipers SC on January 12.
