Police rescue 8 from Rubble after building collapses in Ndejje

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire on Friday confirmed 3 people had died and 8 hospitalised after a 3 storey building collapsed in Ndejje, Makindye Ssabagabo Wakiso District.

“As Police we have put all emphasis at saving lives before we know the cause of the collapse. We thank all the natives that helped in the rescue as well as inform us about the incident. However the search of bodies is still on.” he said

Police responded to distress calls on Friday morning. A building had collapsed covering in its debris a team of masons and potters.

At around midday the Rescue and Fire team had retrieved two dead bodies and four survivors who were badly injured. The bodies were conveyed to the city mortuary in Mulago.

A rescue operation continued until evening and an excavator was launched to try and find people suspected to be trapped under the rubble.

After extensive endeavors, another body, and four more survivors were found.

According to locals, the building was erected in less than a month of construction. So far it’s the collapse is attributed to incompetent site engineers.

The bodies will be released to the families of the deceased on Saturday after postmortem.
