Police issues statement on Kinawataka train accident

Four officers attached to the Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF were on Thursday morning involved in accident in Kinawataka, Nakawa Division in Kampala when a train locomotive collided with an army pick up.

In an official statement released by Uganda Police Force via Facebook, the Kampala Metropolitan Police has confirmed the accident.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigire, only two officers were injured and were rushed to hospital for treatment. He also noted that the pair is in critical condition.

“Police at Kireka working with fire and rescue services have responded at an incident where a Updf Land cruiser H4DF2180 was involved in a derailment with a Uganda Railways locomotive.”he added

Owoyesigire has noted that with the help of the fire and rescue team the situation is back to normal and traffic is flowing steadily.

A conclusive report on the accident is yet to be released as investigation is ongoing per the Uganda Police.
