Buddu registered their second Masaza Cup title after registering a 2-0 victory in the finals of the Airtel Masaza Cup 2021 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.
Marvin Kavuma and Bruno Bunyaga guided Buddu to a well-deserved championship with a full stadium witnessing the football party.
Buwekula looked the better side in the first stanza but failed to utilise their chances hence being penalised by hungry Buddu who took it away in the second stanza.
Buddu’s Twaha Ayman found himself in a favourable place but his header without a marker missed the target hence misusing a clear chance from close range.
On the other hand, Ismail Tambula failed to place Buwekula in the lead after mishandling the ball in the area.
The closest chance for Buwekula came at half an hour mark as Shafick Kakande was left with a keeper to beat but Buddu’s custodian Micheal Lutaaya pulled off a spectacular save.
The first chance of the game saw Brian Omirambe come on the pitch to replace Geofrey Gaganga.
Abdul Nsereko was called off the field of play to be replaced by Lucky Johnson Kasajja in Buwekula’s maiden change.
Entrant Omirambe beat his marker to lay a hard low shot in the area but Buwekula’s goalkeeper Isaac Kwezira Onyango rushed to collect the ball.
At the top of the hour, Gideon Odongo laid an inch-perfect freekick into the area and Marvin Kavumba slotted the ball into the back of the net with a calm header.
Moments later, Bruno Bunyaga extended the lead with a sweat tap in off Odong’s fine delivery as Buwekula’s defence was slumbering at work.
With five minutes to play, Bunyaga nearly added the third with a long-range to beat goalkeeper Onyango who had left his goalline but the effort went off target.
In the classification game, Gabriel Eragu’s header helped Bulemeezi to finish third in a 1-0 victory past Mawokota who automatically finished fourth.
