Kabale District Celebrates Day of the African Child

Young children, parents and district leaders of Kabale have today 28th June, 2022 gathered to commemorate the day for the African Child. Emphasizing this year’s theme Eliminating Harmful Practices Affecting Children, the ceremony took place at Kigezi High School Primary playground in attendance of several schools and was presided over by the Kabale district deputy RDC.

The children called upon everyone to create an environment where they can easily try and realize their God given talents. They thanked parents, guardians, caregivers and church for the support in the bid to eliminate harmful practices that affect them.

Patrick Tushabomwe the NGOs representative appreciated the district local government’s cooperation with various NGOs for the success of the day and appealed to NGOs and child care institutions to come together and mobilize for a stronger umbrella body of child care institutions.

Speaking at the event, the Kabale district deputy RDC Mr. Abel Bakunda Mushambo warned the children against being excited about the younger age and engaging in unbecoming behaviors.
“I request the children not to overinflate their stage and give in to seducing influences especially by politicians over which they will later regret.” he said.

The Kigezi region police spokesperson asked parents and communities to protect against children and make use of the concerned and security offices to observe children’s rights.

“A child is always vulnerable and are unable to acquire everything by themselves. That is why we request parents and communities to make sure that children access everything and protected against any drawbacks.” Maate said.
