How Police used ITMS to track stolen Vehicle

A motor vehicle registration number UA 812 was stolen on Monday May 26, from the areas of Buloba along Mityana road in Wakiso district. The Toyota fielder was later located and recovered from areas of Ntawo in Mukono district.

Micheal Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson revealed that the motor vehicle was recovered using the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), an advanced system that leverages the power of technology to manage transportation networks in a smart and efficient manner in Uganda.

“ITMS is not only instrumental in improving road safety but also plays a vital role in enhancing public security and combating vehicle-related crimes,” Kananura stated.

“Acting swiftly, the police officer who first received the report alerted ITMS and through real-time tracking, the system successfully located the stolen vehicle at geographical coordinates latitude 0.392533 and longitude 32.736718,” the traffic police spokesperson narrated.

He commended the swift coordination between the public, police and the ITMS team. Priscah Pearl Ayesiga, the ITMS Public Relations and communications Officer urged the public to always report in time whenever they lose a vehicle or motorcycle.

“It’s always essential to first report the incident to the nearest police immediately. This allows them to register the incident with the CID and initiate an investigation, increasing the chances of recovery. By reporting promptly, you can help the police track down your vehicle and bring it back to its rightful owner,” Ayesiga advised.

Even when the number plates were plucked off, the ITMS system enabled the continued tracking of the earlier-stolen vehicle. To this, several members of the public have praised ITMS for such a sophisticated technology.
