Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) launched the 2021 Airtel FUFA Awards at Stonehaven Malcolm X hotel Kololo on Thursday afternoon.
The prestigious awards organised by the football governing body in Uganda hardly happened last year since sports was halted by the Covid19 pandemic.
This year’s awards will be served on December 4, 2021, at a ceremony that will be hosted at Speke Resort Munyonyo Hotel.
The FUFA Executive Committee Member Rogers Mulindwa confirmed this year’s theme will stand as ‘Celebrating Uganda’s Finest Football Personalities.’
Unlike the 2019 edition where 14 categories were rewarded, this year’s edition will honour only 13 eliminating the FUFA Upcoming Talent award since Junior’s league has spent two years without action.
During the ceremony, only nominees for two categories in the Male and Female Player of the Year Awards were announced.
The nominees of the other 11 categories are yet to be known before the day of the awarding ceremony.
The nominees of the Male player of the year categlry are Eric Kambale (Express FC), Shafik Kagimu (URA FC) and Vipers SC three players in Yunus Sentamu, Bobosi Byaruhanga and Aziz Kayondo.
On the other hand the nominees for the Female Player of the Year are, Fauzia Najjemba (Kampala Queens WFC), Margret Kunihira (Kawempe Muslim Ladies WFC), Daisy Nakaziro, Joan Naggayi (She Maroons WFC) and Lady Doves duo, Daisy Nakaziro and Fazilah Ikwaput.
Allan Okello and Juliet Nalukenge won the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year Awards respectively in 2019 when the awards were last held who have since moved to play professional football.
The 13 categories to be awarded are; Airtel FUFA Male Player of the year 2021, Airtel FUFA Female Player of the year 2021, Airtel FUFA Coach of the year 2021, Airtel FUFA Women Football Coach of the year 2021, Airtel FUFA Beach Soccer Player of the year 2021, Airtel FUFA Best XI of the year 2021 (Men), Airtel FUFA Best XI of the year 2021 (Women), Airtel FUFA Member Association Award 2021, Airtel FUFA Fair Play Award 2021, Airtel FUFA Futsal Player of the year 2021, Airtel FUFA Presidential of the year 2021, Airtel FUFA fans favourite Uganforeign-basedsed player of the year 2021, and Airtel FUFA Best Squad (Club/National team) of a particular Year.
