The 2022 CECAFA senior women’s championship kicked off on Wednesday with two games in Group A. The early kickoff between Burundi and Djibouti and the second game between hosts Uganda against neighbors Rwanda.
In the first encounter, Burundi defeated Djibouti with three goals to nil courtesy of a double from Sandrine Niyokuru brace and Joelie Bukuru’s freekick.
Despite Djibouti being reduced to ten players they were able to hold Burundi in the second half. Burundi were able to claim a comfortable win.
In the other encounter ,the hosts Uganda defeated neighbours Rwanda with two goals to nil.
Fazila Ikwaput’s goals from both halfs were enough for Uganda to emerge victorious in Njeru on Wednesday.
This leaves Uganda in second place behind log leaders Burundi.
The action continues today with Tanzania facing off with South Sudan and Ethiopia taking on Zanzibar.
