Senegal national team talisman Sadio Mané, has been named the just concluded 2021 African Cup of Nations most valuable player after his heroics sealed the first AFCON title for the Lions of Teranga.
The Liverpool forward was outstanding for Aliou Cissé’s side, notching three goals and providing two assists during the course of the tournament.
Mané again struck the winning spot-kick to seal his country’s 4-2 shootout victory over Mohamed Salah’s Egypt after Sunday’s final had finished goalless after 120 minutes.
He saw a penalty saved early on during the final, but later held his nerve to smash in the decisive spot-kick and was duly recognised as the tournament’s best player.
Sadio Mane joins the ranks of the likes of Ismael Bennacer who won the MVP award at the end of the 32nd edition held in Egypt in 2019 and Cameroon’s Christian Bassogog who grabbed the award in 2017.
