US Open Cup: Uganda’s Kizza inspires Riverhounds past Maryland

Ugandan forward Edward Kizza opened the scoring for Pittsburgh Riverhounds to ensure a safe passage into the fourth round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the Maryland Bobcats on Tuesday night.

Kizza broke the deadlock in the 81st minute after coming on as a substitute in the 69th minute replacing teammate DZ Harmon.

With 9 minutes left on the clock, Luke Biasi slotted a delicious ball from the right wing into the area finding Tola Showunmi who headed it back in front of the sticks for Kizza to send it to the back of the net.

After 90 minutes, Burke Fahling scored a second goal in the 91st minute to seal the victory for the Hounds.

The Hounds will learn their fourth round opponents in Thursday’s draw but their focus now shifts to the UCL Championship with a visit to the Indy Eleven on Saturday.
