Ismail Etinu and Isaac Ochan were on the scoresheet as Kumi University registered a 2-0 victory past International University of East Africa (IUEA) in the Pepsi University Football League on Thursday.
The home side put up a great display in attack commanding the game all through as IUEA woke up late in the last 10 minutes of the game.
Four minutes into the game, Ismail Etinu climbed high to node Daniel Peter Oyet’s ball but his effort narrowly went wide to deny Kumi University an opener.
Isaac Asige and Oyet combined to torment IUEA’s defence but Gideon Wahara stood tall and calm to clear the challenge away to award Kumi a corner kick.
In the 15th minute, Asige placed the ball in the back of the net but the Assistant Referee cancelled it calling for an offside.
Three minutes later, Etinu placed his name on the score sheet after getting the ball past IUEA’s custodian Frank Senyonjo to give Kumi the required lead.
Having played ten minutes in the second stanza, Malesi Mary Alinga’s header was blocked and Oyet’s rebound went high and wide.
Isaac Ochan can’t slotted the ball home to double the lead for Kumi University hence adding salt in IUEA’s wounds after seventy minutes.
Five minutes later, Arnold Amiwa tapped home Steven Oweka’s low cross but the challenge could not find the target denying IUEA a consolation.
Five minutes to end the game Amiwa found himself in the right position in the area but his miscalculated shot went direct to custodian Eric Opila.
Kumi University picked maximum points off IUEA to level points with UCU at the helm of Group A as Victoria University and the visitors of the day are bottom with no point.
