President Museveni has described General Tumwine’s ‘First shot’ in the build up of the NRA revolutionary War as un intended.
President Museveni said this while eulogizing the fallen Four star General at Kololo ceremonial grounds, Monday afternoon.
The president described the late as a resilient soldier who, even after losing an eye, returned and fought on, “Gen. Elly Tumwiine was a resilient man, he was injured badly during our liberation war, but he didn’t withdraw, he came back and continued fighting with us. That spirit of patriotism, and sacrifice, should inspire our young people everywhere,” said President Museveni.
The president scoffed at a section of Ugandan celebrating the demise of the former Minister, “Who ever is insulting Tumwiine is wasting his time because Tumwiine has accomplished alot, As far as our African tradition is concerned, we believe that life continues after you are deceased. Your eternity is seen through the works, actions and most importantly through your children. Gen Elly Tumwine has not died, he is abundantly still here through his children,” he added.
Gen. Elly Tumwine breathed his last on Thursday last week at Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi, Kenya where he had been rushed following numerous cancer related complications.
He will be laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon at his ancestral home in Rwebikona, Kazo District.
