Karim Ndugwa got off the mark, opening his account for Vipers SC since joining the side in the January transfer.

Vipers SC registered a 2-0 victory against Blacks Power in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

It was an end-to-end duel as fans enjoyed the first league game under floodlights after a while.

It was the first victory in open play for the Kitende-based side since last year as they got the cat off their backs.

Abubaker Lawal nearly gave Vipers the lead in the third minute but his effort bounced off the goalpost after going past custodian Tonny Kyamera.

In the 10th minute, Yunus Sentamu set up Karim Ndugwa who calmly headed home to give Vipers a well-earned lead.

The visitors came close through Vitalis Tabu and Robert Eseru but their effort could not get on target.

With a minute to the end of the first half, Martin Kizza extended the hosts’ lead through a low hard shot hence setting the tone of sound in the stands.

Seven minutes into the second stanza, Vipers made a forced change introducing Fabien Mutombora for Denis Kiggundu.

The custodian suffered an injury after colliding with teammate Nzau Lutumba in a nasty ground challenge.

The result took Vipers in the third position with 32 points after 17 games while Blacks Power is second from the bottom with 16 points.

In the next fixture, Vipers will return to action on Tuesday, April 11 as they take on Calvary FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup while Blacks Power will play Maroons on Tuesday, April 18.
