Shyaka pledges Accountability and People Centred Representation

Shyaka Stephen Gashaija, the Member of Parliament for Entebbe Municipality Constituency, has pledged to prioritise corruption-free service delivery, youth and women empowerment, and improved social services for all irrespective of political differences.

He made the remarks during the stakeholders dinner after being sworn in, saying, his focus in Parliament will be to ensure that the development concerns of his constituency are addressed at the national level.

“The President has given guidance that this term, there is no sleep, which means that we must implement our manifesto. We must supervise well, and we must legislate. We must look into the issues that are affecting our people. We must have the knowledge of how many villages we have, how many youth, how many women, and identify the issues and report back to the National Resistance Movement and resolve these issues,” he said.

The legislator lauded voters in Entebbe for entrusting him with the mandate and pledged to work closely with the National Resistance Movement government and fellow leaders to deliver tangible development.

“I pledge to work with my honourable colleagues, the NRM government, local leaders and all stakeholders to bring tangible progress to our constituency,” he emphasized.

When asked about the rumours for the deputy speakership seat, he said, “Those are allegations. As for now, we have not yet reached that level for us, what we are doing is to continue working with our people of Entebbe, and the people are the ones who give us the mandate, and they are the ones to direct us where to go. Right now I don’t have that mandate from my people. I don’t know why people are thinking that way, but let’s keep on pushing.”

For the past 15 years, the Entebbe Municipality Constituency has been represented by opposition leaders in the parliament however now Shyaka Stephen Gashaija (NRM) has taken over for the next five years.
