Prisons Service to Recruit 1,152 new Warders,Wadresses

The Uganda Prisons Service is set to recruit and fill vacancies of 1,152 new warders and wardresses.

The move is to help cater for the shortage of staff across different prisons in the country.

The exercise shall begin with the reception of applications from the interested and suitably qualified candidates followed by interviews which shall be conducted at the 16 regional prisons headquarters across the country and the two sub regions of Kotido and Hoima between 13th and 17th June, 2022 after which the successful applicants shall undergo a basic Prison’s Officer’s Training course of atleast 9 months.

To apply, one must be a Ugandan citizen aged between 18 and 30 years as per the national identity card, must have an O level certificate with at least 4 credits including one in English and a pass in Mathematics, must be physically fit, with no criminal record and have endorsements from the local council 1, 2 and 3 chairpersons of his or her area. He or she must provide 3 copies of result slips, 3 copies of the national ID, 3 recent passport size photographs and original result slips.

According to a letter signed by J. B. Tumwebaze, the secretary of the prisons council, all the stages of the process are free of charge and no money should be paid to any of the service providers during the exercise. Effective appointment into the service shall be subject to successful completion of the training.
