The Round 1 of the FMU Sprint Championship took place on Sunday, 8th June, at the Garuga Race Track in Katabi Town Council. The 4.91-kilometre circuit hosted an exhilarating start to the national sprint calendar.

The championship, run under the 2025 National Competition Rules (NCRs), was open to all drivers brave enough to chase points toward the National Sprint Championship title and willing to risk public embarrassment if they mix up the brake and accelerator again.

Quite a number of action on the track was experienced and drivers proved that they did not spend the off-season just polishing their helmets and arguing over tyre pressure.

Among the notable crews that participated is Robert Sentongo a.k.a. Nkima, who unleashed his Subaru Impreza N10 with the same energy he brings to every race unpredictable and unfiltered Kevin Bebeto switched to Toyota RunX this time, proving that variety really is the spice of life.

Others include Walter Kibande with his ever-loyal Subaru GC8, Abdul Katete in Mitsubishi Evo X, and 2WD champion Ibrahim Lubega in his Toyota FX.

The turn-up was amazing, which also encouraged the cars to go faster while making drivers feel like celebrities at the park covered in dust.

Meanwhile, the day started with the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship at the Raceway Park marking the second round of this year’s calendar.

More than 20 riders who missed the opening round in Kalisizo last month due to unforeseen circumstances added excitement and fresh competition to the mix.

Fortune Ssentamu, known for his spectacular speed, has been absent since last year but returned with an amazing performance that thrilled the fans.

Other participants included Ashraf Sserwadda, Ismail Mukiibi, and Fatu Kiggundu, a regular in the MX1category, who made a surprising switchto the MX2 class due to the lack of astrong 450cc motorbike.
