Hundreds of people gathered on Sunday 29th June at Nkumba Kataka playground at the climax of the 5th edition of the Basamulekkere-Sekigozi Boda Boda Tournament 2025.

Over 100 boda boda stages in Katabi Town Council featured in the tournament, coming up with 20 teams including: Nkumba Bufulu Transformer, Bugiri Bukasa, Hope, Kitubulu, Keep Left, Kitala Stabex, Jantos, Kitala Prisons, Bwerenga, Mumbejja, Taggy, Katomi, and Joyna, among others.

Besides football, this year’s edition featured a bicycling race and ludo.


According to the co-sponsors, Ronald Kalema the Katabi Town Council boss and Stephen Sekigozi, the aspirant MP of Busiro South Constituency, the tournament was an avenue for the teeming youths of Katabi Town Council to discover and showcase their sporting skills through the instrumentality of football and unity.

The tournament’s main aim was to recognise and provide a platform for the boda boda riders, entertainment as well as to unite them.

Several top leaders in the National Unity Platform graced the event including, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the deputy spokesperson, Ali Bukeni also known as Nubian Li, the Minister of Arts, Youth and Sports, Banjoman, Najja Nasifu, Stuart Lubwama, Lillian Babirye, Richard, and Albert Mugambwa – the Mpala cell chairperson among other leaders.



The champions (Transformer boda stage FC) were awarded with a brand new Bajaj box, a trophy, gold medals, a set of jerseys, a ball, a certificate, plus shs. 750,000/-.

In the 2nd position (Bugiri-Bukasa Boda Stage FC) received a brand new boda boda, silver medals, a set of jerseys, a ball, certificate, and shs. 250,000/-.

Kitala Prison Boda Stage FC, in the third position, went away with a bull, a set of jerseys, a ball, plus a certificate, and Bwerenga Boda Stage FC, in the 4th position, received a goat, a set of jerseys, a ball, and a certificate.

A brand new modern bicycle to the winner of the bicycle cycling race and Shs. 500,000/- to the Kabale team that won in Ludo all sponsored by the KatabiTown Council boss, Ronald Kalema and Stephen Sekigozi, the aspirant member of parliament for Busiro South Constituency.

The organising committee, outstanding players and best fans of each ward were rewarded with medals, certificates, and balls.



At the climax, the Basamulekkere-Sekigozi Boda Boda Tournament 2025 was named the most organised and expensive Football Tournament in the entire Wakiso district.
