Manhunt underway after Husband suspected to kill Wife in Rukungiri

Police in Rukungiri district are intensively searching for a man who tragically took the life of his own wife, under circumstances that remain unclear.

The victim has been identified as Kyomugisha Anita, a 23-year-old peasant hailing from Kateramo cell in Kikongi Parish, Bwambara Sub county, Rukungiri district.

Residents in their village, where the incident transpired, said the couple had been living together since February 2023, seemingly without any disputes.

On the fateful night of October 11-12, 2023, at Kateramo trading center, Kateramo cell, Kikongi Parish, the husband, Tumworobere Amos, also known as Gift, is alleged to have fatally injured his wife, Kyomugisha Anita, for reasons yet to be ascertained.

Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, disclosed that on October 11, 2023, the couple was seen together at their home until nightfall when they retired to sleep and the morning at around 7:00 AM on October 12, 2023, the couple’s 4-year-old child, Anderson, informed Sheila Kemigisha, their immediate neighbor, that his mother was lifeless on the bed.

Kemigisha promptly relayed this distressing information to her husband, Twinamasiko Gift, who entered the house and sadly confirmed the fatal injury to the deceased’s neck. Twinamasiko immediately informed Innocent Sabiiti, who subsequently reported the case to Bikurungu Police post.

The case of murder has been officially registered at Bikurungu Police Station under reference number CRB: 1294/2023. The crime scene was examined and documented by police officers from Rukungiri Central Police Station. 

An exhibit of a sharp panga with suspected bloodstains was recovered at the crime scene, and the victim’s body was conveyed to the mortuary at Rwakabengo Health Center III for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the police continue their dedicated efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect.
