Hajji Muhamood Mirundi, lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s father has this evening been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kabungo -Kiwaawo, Kalungu District.
Hundreds joined FDC’s Deputy President incharge of Buganda Region as he bid farewell to his fallen father.
The late has been described by a multitude of disgraced mourners as a man who loved his country and sacrificed everything to ensure that his children could get descent education.
“He was not only a father, he was my mentor. Inna lillahi wa inna illaihi raji’oon. Fare thee well Taata. Till we meet, weraba Taata wange omulungi,” said Erias Lukwago.
Kabungo village was filled by people from all works of life for the send off of the great man of the village, the numbers were a reflection of the great legacy the late has left behind. The leader of opposition, Hon Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, FDC President Hon. Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Rtd Col Dr.Kizza Besigye. Hon. Francis Zaake Butebi, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju , Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi, Hon. Aga David Isabirye were among prominent politicians apresent at the burial.
Prominet religious leaders like Hajj Dr. Prince Khassim Nakibinge Kakungulu and Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Galabuzi were also present. Mufti Galabuzi led the Swalat el Janazah prayers to accord the late a decent send off.
Buganda Kingdom Katikiro (Prime Minister) was ably represented by the Kingdom’s Minister for Information Owek. Noah Kiyimba.
Legacy trees in memory of the late Hajji Mirundi have been planted at the burial site by the FDC Secretary for environment Ms Fatuma Zainab Abalinabyo and the Dr. Kiiza Besigye.
Hajj Mirundi succumbed to old age on Tuesday afternoon at Masaka Referral Hospital where he had been admitted with a minor illness. He died aged 92 years leaving behind a trail of close to 20 children.
