How Visually impaired Students sat for Primary Leaving Exams in Kabale

Four visually-impaired P.7 pupils at Hornby High School Junior in Kabale Municipality commenced their Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) with other pupils a cross the country.

Geoffrey Beinomugisha, the Headteacher of Hornby High School Junior in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality, revealed that the school has a total of 28 candidates, including the four visually impaired.

Beinomugisha explained that the four candidates with special needs, will be using Braille as their method of writing. He said that the school has been admitting visually impaired students since 1969 and currently has a current enrollment of 280 pupils, with 26 blind students.

Meanwhile, the Headteacher of Kigezi High School Primary, David Byamugisha, reported that a total of 78 candidates were registered. The Headteacher of Gods Favor Nursery and Primary School mentioned that all the candidates registered for PLE at their school showed up.

The Headteacher of Lower Bugongi Primary School stated that out of 82 registered candidates, one student did not show up for the PLE after the child’s family relocated from Rwakaraba to an unknown place. Similarly, Henry Mayanja, the Headteacher of Upper Bugongi Primary School, reported that one pupil also did not appear for the exams.

Nelson Byomuhangi, the Headteacher of Kabale Primary School, where 173 candidates are taking the PLE, urged school teachers to maintain the integrity of the examination process and cautioned against any malpractices that could undermine the fairness of the exams.

Dr. Dan Odong, the Secretary of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), announced that 749,347 candidates have registered for the PLE this year.
