History has a tendency to repeat itself. As memories fade, events from the past can become events of the present. Some examples of history repeating itself are Napoleon and Hitler invading Russia, The Great Recession and The Great Depression, extinction events and the sinking of great ships like the Tek Sing, the Vasa and the Titanic plus the arrest of Rtd. Col. Kizza Besigye.
Currently remanded in Luzira Prison is the former presidential candidate. He was granted a cash bail of UGX 30 million by the Buganda Road Magistrate Siena Owomugisha, however Besigye directed his lawyers led by Erias Lukwago to appeal against the bail because it was too expensive.
Following the arrest of Rtd. Col. Kizza Besigye on May 21 at Arua Park, he was detained and arraigned before court on May 25 and was charged with inciting violence, he is set to appear in court again on June 16.
Forum for Democratic Change, Besigye’s party took to twitter on Thursday, throwing back to six years when Besigye was battling charges of treason.
“Our founding President Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye penned this on this day in 2016 when he was in Luzira Prison on treason charges after swearing in as President. Today after six years, he’s in Luzira Prison charged with inciting violence. Hang in there Doctor, we must recover this country,” FDC posted

Rtd. Col. Kizza Besigye was arrested in May 2016 and charged with treason after swearing in himself to office before FDC party officials ahead of incumbent Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony that was soon taking place. The “swearing-in” was filmed and racked up tens of thousands of views on YouTube.
Over the years Besigye has been frequently jailed, put under house arrest, accused of both treason and rape, tear-gassed, beaten and hospitalised.
