Cape Verde registered a 1-0 narrow victory past a man less Ethiopia in the second game of Matchday one of Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Cape Verde had returned to the prestigious tourney since 2013 but looked so firm and energetic throwing bodies in the final third.
However, the moment of sadness to Ethiopia came in the 10th minute when Video Assistant Referee switched Yared Belay’s yellow card caution to marching orders after bringing down Julio Tavares.
With a minute to play in the first stanza, Tavares pounced on Rodriguez’ cross to send Cape Verde in the driving seat.
In the second half, Ethiopia tried to make presence in the battle but due to the numerical difference they found it hard to find foot in the attacking positions.
The win took Cape Verde levelled with Cameroon that registered a 2-1 win against Burkina Faso who sit bottom of the table with Ethiopia.
