The World Bank has conducted a two-day training for the implementers of the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP) to orient them on the applicability of the National and World Bank Environmental and Social Standards (ESS) with the aim of enhancing compliance and ensuring sustainable implementation of the project activities.
The training has been held at the National Agricultural Research Laboratories in Kawanda, Wakiso District.
Speaking to participants, the National Project Coordinator, Eng. Boniface Okanya lauded the World Bank for organising the training, saying, “It will help the project implementors to deeply understand, assess and manage the environmental and social risks and impacts that may be caused by the project.”

“We don’t want a situation where communities start to distance themselves from the project because of small mistakes which can be avoided. The project has put aside a book where all complaints will be registered and solved for better implementation of all the projects we
intend to do,” he added.
Under the Environmental Social Framework, World Bank commits to support Borrowers in the development and implementation of projects that are environmentally and socially sustainable, and to enhancing the capacity of Borrowers environmental and social frameworks to assess and manage the environmental and social risks and impacts of projects.
