Woman, Granddaughter Arrested Over Murder

Police in Rukungiri are holding two family members for allegedly strangling 88 year old Wilson Kabarande to death.

The suspects have been identified as Kellen Tindizira 63 and Sheila Akatwijuka 18 years, wife and granddaughter to the deceased respectively.

The two are residents of Kiguha cell, Kahuku Parish, Nyakageme Sub County, Rukungiri district.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police Spokesperson told journalists on Tuesday September 27th, 2022 that at around 01:30 pm, Tindizira reported a suicide case at Rwerere Police post in which she claimed that her husband had hanged himself.

According to Tindizira, the deceased had been sick and he walked out of the house with a bed sheet at around 9:00 am to rest outside since it was hot inside. She claims that she went to check on him later only to find her husband hanging dead by the bed sheet.

Maate however intimated that when police visited the scene, it was doubtable, “Whether the deceased really hanged himself or not, it is a matter of contention so, we will use our expertise to ascertain facts”.

Suspicion was drawn from the fact that the deceased’s neck was not stiff and the body was bent towards the ground in a kneeling position. Also the guava tree was too immaculate and small to hold his weighgt.

The guava tree was neither bent nor broken. The mouth and eyes all were closed, signs that point to murder.
