UCSATP launches Regional Trainings for Crop Value Chain

The Uganda Climate‑Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP) has rolled out a comprehensive training program designed to orient and equip participants with practical knowledge and hands‑on skills in Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA).

The initiative focuses on promoting technologies, innovations, and management practices that strengthen resilience and productivity along key crop value chains.

The training is being conducted across Teso, Karamoja, Rwenzori, Buganda, Lango, and West Nile, bringing together farmers, extension workers, district technical teams, and value‑chain actors from diverse agro‑ecological zones.

What the training covers

Participants are being introduced to a wide range of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) approaches, including:

  • Climate‑resilient and improved crop varieties
  • Soil fertility and water‑harvesting technologies
  • Conservation agriculture and sustainable land management
  • Integrated pest and disease management
  • Post‑harvest handling and storage innovations
  • Digital tools and climate‑information services for decision‑making
  • Climate‑smart value‑chain development and market linkages

Why this matters

Uganda’s agriculture sector is increasingly affected by climate variability. By strengthening local capacity through practical, field‑based learning, UCSATP aims to:

  • Improve productivity and food security – Reduce climate‑related risks
  • Promote sustainable natural resource management
  • Enhance incomes along priority crop value chains
  • Empower communities to adopt scalable, climate‑resilient practices

Regional Impact

The rollout across the regions ensures that training is tailored to local farming systems and challenges. Participants are expected to take these skills back to their communities, strengthening adoption of CSA practices and accelerating Uganda’s transition toward a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
