The police in Kisoro district are investigating an incident in which a Primary school teacher was reported to have assaulted an 11-year-old pupil to death. Pascal Hakizimana, a teacher at Mutorole primary school, is said to have caned the 11year-old Dan Gasore for failing to understand what was being taught.
According to witnesses, the incident happened on March 09, when the pupil was severely whipped by the teacher on the head and back. After collapsing and sustaining injuries, the victim was rushed to a nearby clinic but was later referred to Kisoro hospital from where he died minutes after arrival.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying, it was reported by the father of the deceased Hillary Tumusiime, a boda boda rider and also a resident of Ruburankono village, Gasiza parish in Nyakabande sub-county.
The regional Police spokesperson says inquiries have commenced, as the teacher remains on run.
