Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances under which a male Rwandan National has been buried alive in a sand mine accident in Kabale District.
kigezi regional police spokesperson, Elly Maate identified the deceased as Emmanuel Twishime a 22year old resident of Mariba village, Nyamiyaga parish, Rubaya Sub County, Gicumbi district in Rwanda.
Maate said that the incident was reported by Kabagambe Robert, 36, the LC1 chairperson of Kiyovu village, Kacerere ward, Ryakarimira town council in Kabale district.
Maate has told the press that on 4th July 2022 at around 7:00am, the deceased and eleven others crossed from Rwanda side to Kiyovu village in Uganda, through Kiyovu porous border to excavate sand for one only identified as Saidi at his sand mine found within Kiyovu village.
During the excavating at around 10:00 am, the mine collapsed and fell on him killing him instantly. Others survived with injuries and were whisked to their country Rwanda.
The deceased body was taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
The case of death incident was registered at kabale Central Police station under reference number CRB: 466/2022.
