Rotary Club of Nkumba has continued to fill in the gaps with the provision of educational infrastructure and support for schools in Katabi town council.
The Club, in collaboration with Katabi Town Council, Kids of Africa and parents, has handed over a well-established 9-stance latrine facility at St. Luke Primary School, Nkumba, in a bid to improve the school’s sanitation.
The facility is expected to benefit over 480 pupils that the school has.
While commissioning the facility, Ronald Kalema, the Katabi town council chairperson who is also a Rotary member of Nkumba explained that this incredible achievement is a testament to the power of partnership and collaboration.
“We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Nkumba, Kids of Africa, Katabi Town Council, and the parents of St Luke Primary School for their unwavering support in making this project a reality,” he said.

In addition, the Katabi town council chairperson remarked that every child deserves access to a clean and safe environment, and this latrine block is a significant step towards achieving that goal.
To the pupils of St Luke Primary School, Kalema asked them to utilise the facility well, saying, “This is your facility, own it, use it, and take care of it. Remember, good hygiene practices start with you, and it’s crucial for your health and well-being.”
“Let us continue to work together to create a healthier, more dignified, and educated community. Thank you, and may this facility serve as a beacon of hope for generations to come,” the Katabi town council boss concluded.
Speaking at the launch, Nkumba Rotarian President, Immaculate Nakato noted that the project has come to fruition thanks to the efforts of Rotarians and partners who have created a lot of hope for the school.

“It will go a long way to ease the sanitation stress of the school. It remains our greatest joy as a club to ensure that we keep all these facilities well-maintained so that generations upon generations will benefit from them,” she emphasised.
Edraonzi Beatrice Nkonge, the school’s Headmistress, lauded the Club for coming to their aid.
“Thank you, Rotary Club of Nkumba, for coming to our rescue in the completion of this project. What a joy! To God be the Glory! Thank you too for the provision of the safe drinking water filtration system. May God bless you Rotary Club of Nkumba abundantly. Not forgetting the Health Camps held at our school to serve the community,” she noted.

Nkonge also appealed for continuous support with infrastructure, especially the staff quarters, the school fence, and the need to paint the school almost every two years since the school is so close to the dusty road.
