Prof. Jude Lubega was on Thursday February 24, installed as the 5th vice chancellor of Nkumba University succeeding Prof. Wilson Muyinda Mande, at a function which was presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Katongole, the university chancellor.
Prof. Lubega is a professor of Information Technology with vast experience in ICT4D and previously the acting vice chancellor of the university from January 2020. He was formerly the deputy vice chancellor of Uganda Technology and Management University from 2013 – 2019, who served in Makerere University as the deputy Dean and Head of the Information Technology Department in the college of Computing and Information Science from 2007 – 2012.
Prof. Lubega’s academic life stretches back to the 2000s where he was a researcher and lecturer in the school of Systems Engineering at the University of Reading, United Kingdom.
He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Leading UK, a masters of Science in Network Centered Computing from the University of Reading – UK as well, a bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Statistics from Uganda Martyrs University and a certificate in Human Resource and Management.
The university guru was listed among the 100 movers and shakers in corporate online learning for 2018 in Africa. He remains a member of the Rotary club of Namasuba where he served as a president from 2019 – 2020. Prof. Lubega owns 8Tech consults, one of the ICT consulting companies in Uganda since 2007.
He is a digital learning expert who has been in charge of formulation of several policies like E-learning across the world. A coordinator of the re-known Panaf E-Network project in Makerere University that has brought cheap and valuable education to many Ugandans through E-learning.
Prof. Lubega is a consultant for various international organizations such as UBTEB, UNESCO, NUFFIC, UNECA, IUCEA, BTC among others where he provides his expertise in the areas related to ICT.
