The event also featured players from Avipol netball team, and 7 Eagles netball teams among others.

While officiating the ceremony, Vianney Luggya, the UCAA’s Manager Public Affairs noted that several sporting events have been held as part of the Aviation Week celebration.

He explained that, apart from the netball gala, other sports activities that have been held include the basketball tournament which took place on Saturday, 29th November at the CCCC basketball court.

“Before that, we had the Rwabushenyi Memorial Chess Championship in Kampala in memory of our former director of airports, the late Sir Rwabushenyi, who was also a founder member of the Uganda Chess Federation, and a seniors golf tournament that was concluded at the golf club in Kampala, still as part of the Aviation Week celebrations,” he said.

Luggya further highlighted that sports are also part of UCAA’s corporate social responsibility objective of giving back to the communities in which they operate.

The Aviation Week is celebrated globally every first week of December, commemorating the signing of the Chicago Convention of 1944, a historic agreement that established ICAO and shaped modern international aviation. Since its first celebration in 1994, the week has become a tradition among ICAO member states, including Uganda.
