One dies in Ntungamo-Kabale Highway Accident

The deceased has been identified as Turinamuka, a resident of Ibaaso ward, Muhanga Town council in Rukiga District. Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson said, the deceased was a passenger on a motorcycle which collided with a vehicle on Monday evening.

“Police in Rukiga district is still investigating the circumstances under which a 36year-old passenger died in that accident which occurred at St. Paul’s Bukinda SS along Ntungamo Kabale highway,” Maate noted.

The driver of a white Toyota premio motor vehicle UAP 115S was identified as Maxima Kasigwa 40years, a resident of Kakatunda town centre in Muhanga Town council. He fled the scene after the accident.

According to eye-witness accounts, the rider was keeping his left hand side of the road heading to Ntungamo direction, before he abruptly turned to the extreme right hand lane of the road where he was met with an incoming vehicle from Ntungamo which knocked motorcycle head on.

Police said that the preliminary cause of the accident was reckless riding by the motorcycle rider. Maate said the injured motorcycle rider was rushed to Kabale referral hospital for medical attention while the body of the passenger was taken to the mortuary.

A case of fatal accident was registered at Rukiga police station under reference TAR 07/2023 as both the motor vehicle and motorcycle were towed to Muhanga police station pending inspection and efforts to arrest the driver are still underway, after he abandoned the vehicle 60metres away from the scene.
