Krystal Birungi Mwesigwa, a Ugandan scientist and Research and Outreach Associate at Target Malaria Uganda, has been selected from a highly competitive global applicant pool to join the prestigious Obama Foundation Leaders Program.
The Obama Foundation Leaders program is a flagship initiative designed to inspire, empower, and connect emerging changemakers from around the world who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to advancing the common good in government, civil society, and the private sector.
Krystal Birungi Mwesigwa is one of a select group of 24-45-year-old leaders chosen for their work to forge societies and communities rooted in shared values, where all people belong, participate, and thrive. They will participate in a comprehensive, values-based leadership development experience designed to accelerate positive and lasting change in their community and region.
“I am incredibly honoured and humbled to be selected for this program. This is a transformative opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with a global network of changemakers. I look forward to gaining new skills and perspectives that will help me deepen the impact of my work in entomology,” Mwesigwa said.
Inspired by President Barack Obama’s leadership approach, the program engages participants in the challenges, opportunities, and skills of making positive change. Through full-group sessions, small-group discussions, and individualised leadership coaching, participants will define a values-based foundation for sustained leadership and prepare to engage with complex issues at the systems level.
Upon completion of the program, Krystal Birungi Mwesigwa will join the Obama Leadership Network, a growing global alumni community of over 1,200 active changemakers working across borders to create a more equitable and sustainable world.
