Entebbe leaders have launched the construction of the 6.1-kilometre roads, Sebugwawo-Bunono-Abayita-Ababiri road plus Kitinda link project across Katabi town council and Entebbe municipality.
The project was officially flagged off today with the groundbreaking ceremony in Bunono, Katabi town council.
Speaking at the event, Fabrice Rulinda, the Mayor of Entebbe municipality, announced that the roadworks will cost shs 40 billion including, 2.1 billion shillings for the civil engineering consultant, and 492 million for the environment and social consultant, all inclusive of VAT.

He further highlighted that the project is expected to take 18 months and therefore urged the contractors (China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co. Ltd) to deliver the works on time.
Rulinda further emphasised the need for a water browser and road safety throughout the construction period.
The project involves the Sebugwawo-Bunono to Abayita-Ababiri road, which starts from Entebbe road and runs to approximately 4.7km, and the Kitinda link, which is about 1.4km running from Entebbe road to the shores of Lake Victoria, passing through a landscape characterised by a mix of residents and businesses on both sides of the road.
Ronald Kalema, the Katabi town council chairperson lauded the residents for giving way to this road project and asked them to refrain from interfering with the roadworks but instead report any concerns to the appropriate authorities to avoid project mismanagement.
He also urged residents to take ownership of the roads, saying, “Fellow citizens let us protect the roads from damage, and let’s all work together for the good of the project and our area.”
In conclusion, Kalema explained that the road will feature wide walkways, security lighting, parking lanes on either side, and covered drainage systems, among others.

Other leaders who attended the event include Charles Kabwama the deputy mayor of Entebbe municipality, Scholastica Najjemba the Entebbe Division A chairperson, Betty Nanyombi the Katabi town council vice chairperson, and Juma Abdullah the speaker of Katabi town council, among other Katabi and Entebbe representatives.
The project is under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Program (GKMA-UDP) with funding from the World Bank and Agence Française de Dévelopement (AFD) to improve service delivery through institutional capacity strengthening, coordination of integrated planning and management, and to enhance access and mobility in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA).
