The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has opened a five-day ICAO Aviation Security Crisis Management workshop to strengthen preparedness for security emergencies at Entebbe International Airport.
The training was officially opened today by Eng. Ronny Barongo, UCAA Director of Safety, Security and Economic Regulation, at Protea Hotel in Entebbe.
The workshop is being organised in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA).
Speaking at the opening, Eng. Barongo said the workshop is designed to equip middle and senior management teams of Entebbe International Airport with skills to organise, plan, assess and respond to acts of unlawful interference.
“The aviation environment is dynamic, and threats evolve. This training will enable participants to understand the elements necessary to effectively respond to major security emergencies,” he noted.
Barongo emphasised that effective crisis management requires coordination among all airport stakeholders to protect passengers, staff, aircraft and critical infrastructure.
Participants include representatives from security organisations, ground handling agencies, airport staff, and other airport stakeholders.
The five-day program will cover crisis management frameworks, incident command, communication during emergencies, decision-making under pressure, and post-incident recovery, in line with ICAO Annex 17 standards on aviation security.
CASSOA officials noted that the collaboration with UCAA is part of broader regional efforts to harmonize aviation security practices and ensure that East African states are compliant with international standards.
Entebbe International Airport is Uganda’s sole international gateway and handles over 2 million passengers annually. The workshop runs for five days in Entebbe.
